Talk to us month 1st July-31st July

July is Talk To Us Month. This campaign, run by the Samaritans, encourages people to open up about their problems and talk them through with a loved one or trained professional.

Talking about your problems, experiences, or worries can give a fresh perspective and help you to manage whatever issues you’re dealing with. Research has found that putting your feelings into words can reduce the stress that comes with bottling them up.

Opening up might not be easy. When you are not used to discussing your feelings, it can feel intimidating. However, talking to your loved ones can help you to cope with difficult situations and provide an outlet for your emotions.

If you need to talk at any time, please contact the following helplines:

April 2022
It’s National Hug a Plumber Day on April 25!

Many plumbers have saved the day (and, more often, night). They can prevent catastrophe by fixing a toilet or unclogging a drain. What would our lives be without these heroes of indoor plumbing? Don’t laugh. It takes great expertise to really know what goes on in those mazes of pipes and how to keep them all running like clockwork.
Let’s make this an opportunity to show them how much we value their work.

International Women's Day

Today is International Women's Day. This years theme is #BreakTheBias
A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

Self Injury Awareness Day 1st March 2022

Self-Injury Awareness Day is on the 1st of March every year, as it has been for for well over twenty years.

SIAD is an international event that is recognised across the globe.

Raising awareness about self-injury is incredibly important. Awareness leads to understanding and empathy, banishing judgment and fear, and reducing the number of people who feel alone and suffer in silence.

Raising awareness is about educating people who do not self-injure, and reaching out to people who do.

Today marks the first day of Eating Disorder Awareness week.

28/02/2022-06/03/2022
Today marks the first day of Eating Disorder Awareness week.
Eating Disorders Awareness Week is an international awareness event, fighting the myths and misunderstandings that surround anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder and EDNOS.
This year, during Eating Disorders Awareness Week, we asked the question Why Wait?’
On average, 149 weeks pass before those experiencing eating disorder symptoms seek help. That’s almost three years, 37 months or 1,043 days. On top of this, in a YouGov survey conducted for EDAW, more than one in three adults (34%) in the UK, who gave an answer, could not name any signs or symptoms of eating disorders. Find out more about the signs of an eating disorder.
We know the sooner someone gets the treatment they need, the more likely they are to make a full and fast recovery. As well as campaigning to improve the services available, we recognise that we must raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of an eating disorder and encourage and empower people to take action now no matter how long their symptoms have been present.
