Oil Training

Who is it suitable for?

Before you can join OFTEC’s competent persons register, you will need to demonstrate that your work is of the expected standard. This means you must complete a training course before undertaking any assessments.

Course Programme

* Cost and duration of training is for each range of scope depending on the type of equipment you wish to install. Training duration is 1 day per element.

The scope options (elements) available are:

OFT 105E Domestic/Light Commercial Installation
Training for Oil Installers to obtain OFTEC 105E Registration – allowing Installers to ‘self-certify’ their own work and meet the requirements of Part J of the current building regulations.

Topics covered will cover:

• Oil fired boiler safety requirements
• Oil storage less than 3500 litres
• Oil fired boiler flues and ventilation
• Oil fired heating system design including Part L1
• Types of oil firing and cooking equipment
• Fuel feed pipework
• Boiler changeover

OFT 600A Oil Storage Tank Installation
This practical training course is designed to provide operatives with the regulations and standards applicable to the installation and supply of oil storage tanks.

Topics covered will cover:

• Oil storage tank safety requirements
• Building regulations and planning consent
• Steel and thermoplastic oil storage more than 3500 litres
• Oil tank fittings
• Tank system design
• Gauges and overfill alarm
• Maintenance
• Codes of practice
• Types of oil and their indemnification
• Constructional standards
• Fuel feed pipework
• Thermostatic controls
• Contamination problems

New entrants to the oil industry must have completed a Oil training course before they can book in for Assessments (see OFTEC Oil Assessment course details).
